Atlanta Beltline

July 19, 2022

The Atlanta Beltline was originally developed in 1999 as the central focus of a master’s thesis by Georgia Tech student Ryan Gravel. The concept has evolved and is now Atlanta’s most iconic feature, transforming former rail lines into 33 miles of multi-use urban walking and biking paths. This ongoing project, which began in 2005,is scheduled to be completed in 2030. It will loop around the city and include streetcars, creating or improving 1,300 acres of parks, 5,600 units of affordable housing, and the largest outdoor public art exhibition in the south. The development has launched urban renewal projects in Atlanta like Ponce City Market and Lee + White.
